The trees went forth to look after and anoint a king over them, and they said to the OLIVE TREE come and reign over us. But the Olive tree politely refuse their offer saying that he cannot leave his fatness which is his way of giving honor to God and men.
So, the trees approached the FIG TREE and made the same offer which was earlier refused by the Olive tree. The Fig tree face squarely the trees and said, "Shall I leave my good fruits and go wave over the trees?
Then the trees saw the VINE TREE and convince him to reign over them. But the vine tree is not interested to be their king citing that he cannot leave his new wine that cheers God and man.
At last the trees said to the BRAMBLE TREE, come reign over us! The BRAMBLE, said to the trees, "If in truth you are anointing me as king over you!", Come and take refuge in my shade; but if not may fire come out from the Bramble tree and consume the cedars of Lebanon.
This story was taken from the Old Testament particularly in the Book Of Judges 9.
Jotham compares Abimelech to the Bramble tree, a worthless plants whose end is to be burned.
Someone said, "To aspire leadership is an honorable ambition."
According to Matthew Henry's Commentary, "TO RULE, INVOLVES A MAN IN GREAT DEAL BOTH OF TOIL AND CARE."
Those who preferred public trust and power must forsake all private interest and advantages for the good of others.
